KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

2022
Project brief

As Creative Lead, Producer, Lead Camera Operator, and Editor, I led the development of Know Your Rights, a digital education series designed to help students better understand the policies, procedures, and rights that shape their university experience.

The challenge was straightforward: students were often unaware of important policies and resources available to them, yet the information itself was typically buried within lengthy documents and institutional language. Our goal was to transform complex information into content that was clear, engaging, and easy to consume.

‍

My Contributions

‍

  • Led creative strategy and series development
  • Produced and managed the project from concept to delivery
  • Directed interviews and episode structure
  • Served as lead camera operator during production
  • Edited long-form and short-form video content
  • Developed social media adaptations and promotional assets
  • Created audience engagement opportunities through student interviews and feedback

Approach

‍

Rather than relying on traditional communications channels, I developed a content strategy centered around short-form video and social-first storytelling. The result was Know Your Rights, a web series that brought student leaders and university representatives together to discuss topics that directly impacted students.

Each episode explored key policies, procedures, and resources in a conversational format designed to make information more accessible and relatable. To expand the series' reach, I repurposed content into bite-sized social media reels and clips, allowing students to engage with important information in the spaces they were already spending their time.

To further strengthen audience engagement, we incorporated student voices directly into the series through on-campus interviews and question gathering. This approach ensured the content addressed real concerns while creating a stronger connection between the audience and the information being presented.

‍

Impact

‍

Know Your Rights demonstrated how strategic storytelling and video content can transform complex institutional information into something approachable, relevant, and engaging. By meeting students where they were and delivering information in a format they preferred, the series increased awareness of important policies and resources while encouraging greater participation in campus conversations.

More importantly, the project empowered students by providing them with the knowledge needed to confidently navigate their university experience. It stands as an example of my ability to combine communications strategy, storytelling, video production, and audience engagement to create content that informs, educates, and drives meaningful impact.
